Sit and Wait Sessions
The introduction of the Sit and Wait surgeries at the practice are proving to be very successful and we have received a positive response from our patients.
However, some of our patients may not know of this service or the criteria that these sessions have, so we have listed below the following:
We hope this information helps you decide which of our services are the most appropriate.
These are available to anyone. Please book in with a practice nurse. She will do a number of basic checks and discuss your health with you. These are recommended every 3 years.
We offer annual checks for our patients who are aged 75 or over. Please book with reception.
These are generally undertaken by one of the nurses. Ladies between the ages of 25 and 50 will routinely be called by the health authority every 3 years. Ladies between 50 and 64 will be called every 5 years.
NHS Screen Programmes - Information for Trans people
Advice is provided by all the doctors; and the nurses in the treatment room. We offer a full range of contraceptives including the 3 year contraceptive implant. Alternatively the following services are available:

Childhood immunisations are carried out on Tuesday afternoons, between 14:00 and 16:00 - the nurses are unavailable at that time for other appointments. The health authority will send you reminders when your child's immunisations are due.
The Long Term Conditions clinic usually takes place each afternoon, between 13:30 and 16:00. There are also appointments available in our Wednesday late evening clinic. If you have a long term condition (asthma or other respiratory condition, diabetes, heart disease or have had a stroke or mini-stroke) you will be invited once a year for an annual check with a specialist nurse. The check takes approximately 20 minutes.
A blood test is required 2 weeks before the clinic appointment for patients with heart disease, diabetes or having had a stroke. You will be advised of this when you ring to book for the clinic. Please note you will be given the results of this blood test in the clinic, there is no need to telephone for them.
Please be aware that we are required by the government to call you three times each year if you do not respond to our letters. If you do not want to be called or you have had a letter and don't want to come to clinic you can download a disclaimer form from here. Fill it in and return it to us and we won't call you again for a year.
We are offering patients aged between 40 and 74 years a cardiovascular health check as long as you haven’t already *got high blood pressure, Diabetes, Kidney Disease, Heart Disease, had a Stroke or are taking a Statin medication. This involves coming in for a cholesterol test followed a week or so later by a 20 minute appointment with one of our Health Care Assistants to take your weight, height, blood pressure and to answer some lifestyle questions. They will then assess your risk of a developing Heart Disease, Type 2 Diabetes, Kidney Disease or having a Stroke. If you are at a high risk they will advise you to see the GP who can discuss lifestyle changes and medication options with you. If you would like one of these please ring reception and ask for an NHS Health Check.
*this list in not extensive - please contact reception to see if you qualify.

Some services provided are not covered under our contract with the NHS and therefore attract charges. Examples include the following:
The Fees are based on the British Medical Association (BMA) suggested scales and our reception staff will be happy to advise you about them along with appointment availability.
If you require any vaccinations relating to foreign travel you need to complete a Travel Questionnaire, this will be reviewed by one of our Practice Nurses; a Receptionist will then ring to arrange an appointment with the practice nurse and will outline which vaccines you will need for the countries you are visiting and if there is an additional charge.
There is further information about countries and vaccinations required on the links below
It is important to make this initial appointment as early as possible - at least 6 weeks before you travel - as a second appointment may be required with the practice nurse to actually receive the vaccinations. Some vaccines have to be ordered as they are not a stock vaccine. Your second appointment needs to be at least 2 weeks before you travel to allow the vaccines time to work.
Some travel vaccines are ordered on a private prescription and these incur a charge over and above the normal prescription charge. This is because not all travel vaccinations are included in the services provided by the NHS.
WE ARE A YELLOW FEVER CENTRE. If you ONLY require this vaccine we can see you as a private patient even if you are not registered here - please speak to a receptionist on 01530 414131 regarding availability and booking.
To help us offer the appropriate advice, please fill out the online form before coming to see the nurse.
If you are travelling to Europe the EU has published useful information for travellers on the European website.
