Please note that Castle Medical Group is a University Teaching Practice and on occasions there maybe a medical student in the consultation room when you go to see your GP. If, on a teaching day, you would prefer to see your doctor alone, please mention this to either the receptionist or the GP.
Ashby Art Club and Ashby Camera Club have provided the wall art. These items can be purchased via our reception.
Our team 7 Doctors, 2 Specialist Nursing Practitioners, 3 Nurses and 3 Health Care Assistants. In addition we have many support staff who keep the health centre running on a day to day basis.
The practice has over 14,600 patients and provides a wide range of services and clinics.
There are many of you who rarely come into the Health Centre and so we hope you will use the site as a means of keeping up to date with all our changes.
New Mobile telephone SMS service
We are always trying to find ways to improve our communication with our patients.
We have decided to change our mobile telephone SMS service. We have made this decision because the existing SMS service is restrictive and impersonal. With our new system we will now be able to offer a more tailor made service.
This means that the staff from the practice will be able to send you a SMS message directly, with, for example, information regarding your blood test or sample results. They can also contact you to remind you to book for a specific test or review. We will also be able to inform you if we need to cancel or move your appointment.
If you need to cancel your appointment there is now the facility to click on the email link included in text messages sent you which will make cancelling your appointment easier.
In order for you to take advantage of this new system, please provide the practice will an up to date mobile telephone number that you would like this information sent to.
If you no longer want to participate in getting any SMS messages from us, please contact reception who will forward your request to our IT department.

Call NHS 111 if you urgently need medical help or advice but it's not a life-threatening situation. You can also call NHS 111 if you're not sure which NHS service you need.
Call 999 if someone is seriously ill or injured and their life is at risk.
Visit a walk-in centre, minor injuries unit or urgent care centre if you have a minor illness or injury (cuts, sprains or rashes) and it can't wait until your GP surgery is open.
Ask your local pharmacist for advice – your pharmacist can give you advice for many common minor illnesses, such as diarrhoea, minor infections, headache, travel advice or sore throats | www.nhs.uk
Make an appointment with your GP if you are feeling unwell and it is not an emergency.
Facilities for Patients with Particular Needs
The Health Centre has four toilets for the disabled and a lift for easy access to the first floor consulting rooms and treatment rooms, three disabled car parking spaces at the front of the building and more towards the rear of the building. Please note that although we are able to accommodate wheelchairs and indeed, have some wheelchairs for use in the lobby, we are not able to accommodate motorised scooters inside the Health Centre and we ask that you park these in an appropriate place outside in the car park. If you need assistance with accessing the Health Centre and are unable to bring someone along with you to help, please let the receptionist know when you book your appointment and we will make every effort to help.

Do you qualify for an NHS Health Check?
We are offering patients aged 40 or above a cardiovascular health check as long as you haven’t already *got high blood pressure, Diabetes, Kidney Disease, Heart Disease or had a Stroke. This involves coming in for a cholesterol test followed a week or so later by a 20 minute appointment with one of our Health Care Assistants to take your weight, height, blood pressure and to answer some lifestyle questions. They will then assess your risk of a developing Heart Disease, Type 2 Diabetes, Kidney Disease or having a Stroke. If you are at a high risk they will advise you to see the GP who can discuss lifestyle changes and medication options with you. If you would like one of these please ring up reception and ask for an NHS Health Check.
