Welcome to Castle Medical Group
Castle Medical Group serves the town of Ashby-de-la-Zouch and its closest villages. Our aim is to provide friendly personal health care for you and your family. There are many of you who rarely come into the Health Centre and so we hope you will use the site as a means of keeping up to date with all our changes.
Suggestions and ideas are always welcome and are always taken seriously. We have a link on the website or there is a Suggestion Box in the lobby.

Our team 6 Doctors, 3 Nurse Practitioners, 2 Practice Nurses and 3 Health Care Assistants. In addition we have many support staff who keep the health centre running on a day to day basis.
The practice has over 14,750 patients and provides a wide range of services and clinics.

Mobile SMS service
Staff from the practice are able to send you a SMS message regarding your blood test, sample results, remind you to book for a specific test or review and inform you if we need to cancel or move your appointment. You can also cancel your appointment by clicking on the email link included in text messages.
In order for you to take advantage of this system, please provide the practice will an up to date mobile telephone number that you would like this information sent to.
If you no longer want to participate in getting any SMS messages from us, please contact reception who will forward your request to our IT department.
We are asking Patients to purchase medicines over the counter at your local pharmacy for short-term minor conditions, rather than asking the GPs to supply them on prescription. Facilities for Patients with Particular Needs
The Health Centre has four toilets for the disabled and a lift for easy access to the first floor consulting rooms and treatment rooms, three disabled car parking spaces at the front of the building and more towards the rear of the building. Please note that although we are able to accommodate wheelchairs and indeed, have some wheelchairs for use in the lobby, we are not able to accommodate motorised scooters inside the Health Centre and we ask that you park these in an appropriate place outside in the car park. If you need assistance with accessing the Health Centre and are unable to bring someone along with you to help, please let the receptionist know when you book your appointment and we will make every effort to help.

Do you qualify for an NHS Health Check?
We are offering patients aged 40 or above a cardiovascular health check as long as you haven’t already *got high blood pressure, Diabetes, Kidney Disease, Heart Disease or had a Stroke. This involves coming in for a cholesterol test followed a week or so later by a 20 minute appointment with one of our Health Care Assistants to take your weight, height, blood pressure and to answer some lifestyle questions. They will then assess your risk of a developing Heart Disease, Type 2 Diabetes, Kidney Disease or having a Stroke. If you are at a high risk they will advise you to see the GP who can discuss lifestyle changes and medication options with you. If you would like one of these please ring up reception and ask for an NHS Health Check.

Please note that Castle Medical Group is a University Teaching Practice and on occasions there maybe a medical student in the consultation room when you go to see your GP. If, on a teaching day, you would prefer to see your doctor alone, please mention this to either the receptionist or the GP.

New Healthwatch arrangements
From 1 April 2018, there will be a new Healthwatch arrangement for Leicestershire and Leicester City. The new provider is Engaging Communities Staffordshire (ECS) and they will be picking up the reins from the start of April.
The current Healthwatch Leicestershire representative positions will end on 31 March 2018 when the contract held by Voluntary Action Leicestershire (VAL) comes to an end.
