Silver Line Charity
The Silver Line Charity was founded a few years ago by Dame Esther Rantzen (who also set up Childline). It is a free 24/7 helpline for older people - offering a befriending service both on the phone and by letter to combat loneliness. It is also a simple signposting service linking people to services they may need and not be aware exist, including for those suffering abuse. So far 3000 Silver Line Volunteers make regular friendship calls to older people and the charity receive over 10,000 calls a week. I hear that these numbers are only going up, and the charity really is having a great impact on a lot of people. Here is their website: https://www.thesilverline.org.uk/what-we-do/.
